In case anyone has a free Saturday in May (the 18th) and wants to see how much they hate themselves....

I'll be out there (assuming I don't get broken in training mode) with a dozen or so friends.

I have achieved an entertaining balance on facebook.
Friends(58)
58 friend requests

Oddly enough, seems that knowing me through friends of friends and seeing me once or twice a year is enough reason to friend me.

*shrug*

I'm still working on the theory that to be friends someone should have been invited or have invited me over to a home for dinner. Crazy, I know.

Fixing chimney - 1400 USD
Adding gutters - 460 USD

Saving the garage from falling apart - ... clearly about 1900 USD, not priceless.

BOOM!

"ROTF is like twenty summer movies, with unrelated storylines, smushed together into one crazy whole. You try in vain to understand how the pieces fit, you stare into the cracks between the narrative strands, until the cracks become chasms and the chasms become an abyss into which you stare until it looks deep into your own soul, and then you go insane."

Only gets better ... might even be an fun as Ebert's review

Again?

Once again people, don't surf porn at work... even if they aren't looking for it your IT staff will find it during the course of their daily maintenance work.

Seriously... it's not worth getting fired over.

EDIT: ... a 700MB video file? Really?

The movie itself is pretty cool (all about the personalities) but watching him play live is kinda amazing, kinda creepy.

"Watch Steve Wiebe's Donkey Kong Record Attempt LIVE
Legendary gamer Steve Wieve will attempt to reclaim his "Donkey Kong" throne at E3 and we're giving you a front row seat. Wieve was the first person on record to break a million points in "donkey Kong," a high score that he ultimately lost to his nemesis Billy Mitchell as documented in the popular film "The King of Kong: A Fist Full Of Quarters." Twin Galaxies, the authority on video game score ranking, will provide the official "Donkey King" unit and be on-hand to record Wiebe's score as he attempts to break Mitchell's world record and reclaim victory.

No surprise, I'm online a good deal of the day thanks to work.
As such I keep my brain moving by wasting a couple of minutes playing a couple of different "online clicky database games". Basically anything that involved pushing buttons and watching random stats on a character go up or down.

As such... I don't much care about the outcome since it's a way to pass the time. I've found this attitude to be very distressing to people who take their games very seriously. Such as this chap that I ran into recently who took offense at having his guild mocked via my guild...

Random player:
"Rename your guild or suffer being zeroed out daily "

My response:
"Suffer? Seriously? So the threat is since you can't handle a bit of mocking on the internet, one of the fields on my clicky database game is going to be zero?
Oh noes! Whatever shall I do?
Who ever will save me this horrible fate?
"

Nothing more upsetting to people than not taking them as serious as they want to be online. :)

*sigh*

Cyber-Attack on an American City

Bruce Perens

"Just after midnight on Thursday, April 9, unidentified attackers climbed
down four manholes serving the Northern California city of Morgan Hill and
cut eight fiber cables in what appears to have been an organized attack on
the electronic infrastructure of an American city. Its implications, though
startling, have gone almost un-reported.

That attack demonstrated a severe fault in American infrastructure: its
centralization. The city of Morgan Hill and parts of three counties lost
911 service, cellular mobile telephone communications, land-line telephone,
DSL internet and private networks, central station fire and burglar alarms,
ATMs, credit card terminals, and monitoring of critical utilities. In
addition, resources that should not have failed, like the local hospital's
internal computer network, proved to be dependent on external resources,
leaving the hospital with a "paper system" for the day.
"

huh...
