A while in coming

 So the Tain Bo madness.

Wasn't a whole lot of madness, actually.  Far less ridiculous than my trip to GWW all those years ago with Epona that started this whole chain of events.  First of all, Neal was a beast when it came to driving - far more than Epona and I - and drove like the first fifteen hours without a hitch.  Of course, he's way more used to the long hauls than we are - even me coming off a 12 hour run from MD.  His brother is in Denver, CO and so he makes that run on the regular.  Epona is not in good health.  She had the start of MS before getting married and the stress of that narcissistic abusive hell has not done her any favors.  Also, I don't know what doctor told her she didn't need a CPAP or have any breathing issues, but every time she fell asleep (and she was always tired and zonking out) it sounded like she was fighting for her life.

Also the route we took had less opportunity for madness.  The drive to southern CA at least has Rt 66 kitsch still lingering to visit - not to mention shops set up for all the Native wares, so plenty of opportunity to shop.  Taking the northern most route to the PNW means you get to go through the Dakotas and can hit all the great monuments.  Doing the center route all along I-80.  There's nothing there.  Like a great lot of nothing as you creep into Iowa and certainly nothing once you hit NE.  The best we could do is stop for meals in the smallest, weirdest, sketchiest places.  And oh damn was the food good.  The only time we ate in anything resembling a chain was on the way home and it was the restaurant connected to a hotel (not the one we stayed in 'cause we were cheap ass bastards).  It was really disappointing.  I mean, its breakfast - how do you mess up breakfast?

But the event was pretty chill.  I didn't get nearly enough fighting in and it wasn't until I dropped armor it was remarked that "Oh yeah, at 5,000 feet there's a lot less air.  Oh, and the sun has a bit more UV."  I had been wondering why the sun felt so much more oppressive even though it wasn't "hot".  So much more intense.  And I wasn't sucking wind or out of breath, but everything did seem harder.  We did some melee and I fought Rob (sir Sun) and that was about it.  Still don't enjoy melee because I feel like I'm in everyone's way and not really an effective team member.  But I guess we did okay.

I don't feel like we did a lot of Embassy stuff, we mostly hung out with each other and the few people who came by.  We had brought plenty of Malort and a case of specialty made Embassy whisky as an apology to everyone who drank Malort, but didn't really booze it up like I though we were going to.  Which is fine, I just hope that Hannah and Faun weren't disappointed by our lack of reckless shenanigans.  I was a little let down, I think, but I had been spending the last two years hyping it up and getting people excited, I don't think that it could have possibly lived up to my expectation anyway. :)

It was a beautiful site - mountains and trees and lovely - and fucking killing cold at night.  My teeth were chattering so much I thought I chipped a tooth.  I certainly ground away some enamel.

I'm glad its over.  I'm feeling burnt out on some level.  I need to start focusing more on fighting in kingdom if I want to get anywhere, Foreign Wyrd Fame Being the Best Wyrd Fame notwithstanding.
