So anyone else buy themselves a FRS radio lately? That's one of those 20-50 USD radio or radios designed to work on the "Family Radio Service" band. Short range, low power, and generally a sometimes congested section of the frequency spectrum.
GMRS on the other hand is a licensed band that some radios can transmit on with up to a 15 mile range.
Why should you care? Honestly, 99% of you shouldn't care, but I've run into a couple of people lately that are using the dual mode radios who didn't understand the difference in the two operational modes (FRM and GMRS). If you are thinking of buying a set (or more) of these, do yourself the favor of learning what the difference is.
